I had a friend who was like, how do you get past this fear of people not liking you? And I'm like, dude, life is so short. I know my mustache ain't even like, I, I know, I know my teeth are crooked and I know I have like a weird smile sometimes. Like I enjoy it. This is me, bro. Like it's really a good part of learning to love yourself and just not caring what people think.

is Big Dink Energy, the pickleball podcast that's half insight, half nonsense, and all entertainment. If you love pickleball, don't take yourself too seriously and think a little trash talk makes the game better. Welcome home. This is the place where life and pickleball intersect. We celebrate the chaos, call out the nonsense, and put the fun back in dysfunction. You're either in or you're out. And if you're still listening, you're in. So let's go.

Big Dink Energy starts now. I seen her in a smoky room. Smell of wine and cheap perfume. Not here though. This is a Big Dink Energy podcast. No cheap perfume. Nope. Well, maybe a smell of wine if you come smell our mics. Coming live to your ear holes. Now listen, listen, listen, lean in. You're going to want to know this. This episode is brought to you by Hyper Ice. Listen.

I was not a recovery tool guy at all. I thought recovery was for dudes with ice baths, matching workout sets, and a meditation app. That was not me. I'm harder than woodpecker lips. I walked it off, I rubbed dirt on it, I used superglue on open wounds instead of stitches, but then I had a knee replacement. Yep, that's me. And humility showed up real fast, real, real fast. Turns out the tough guy routine works great. Right up until your body sends you the bill. And brother, the bill.

The who take recovery seriously, they're the ones still playing. And the ones who don't, they're the ones telling stories about when they used to play. Hyper ice in this house, non-negotiable. I use it on my total knee replacement and my other knee. The knees feel better than they have in years.

Speaker 1 (02:00.128)
Stephanie grabs it after a long pickleball day and it just works. And here's the thing, if I'm telling you to try it, you know I mean it. I don't plug anything I don't actually use. Head over to bdepodcast.com slash over 40. That's bdepodcast.com slash over 40. The links right there, your knees, your back and your ego will thank you. I love my hyper ice. Me too. I should have it on right now. Then Jeff would yell at us. It would be in the background. So I thought we'd start with something a little bit fun this episode.

Let's react to a video that I brought in. OK. All right. This is from the PPA tour in Asia. They had an opening ceremony that just you got to you got to watch it to believe it. So as in everything we do at BDE Podcasts, we know that videos work great on an audio show. You are going to have to go over to our socials to see this video. We'll link it in there for you. I'm just going to play a little bit of this and I'll describe to you listeners driving what I'm seeing on screen.

So this is a main court. There's some sort of screen down on the court and they are just playing video. There's people dancing on the court. There's a laser show going on. There's people with laser suits on jumping around. This thing is just fricking amazing. This is the way to do an opening right here. So I'm not gonna play the whole thing because that's just weird for people. But.

So I know you guys have seen it. So a couple things come to mind, number one, for us. I think if you're playing on a court like this, then you've obviously, you've got to have walkout music for yourself. For sure. So I think we need to decide what our own walkout music is that we would have on this. And then the other thing I'm thinking is, what the hell, Asia? Or maybe what the hell, America? How come we don't do this?

When I saw it, this is 100 % what I want. This is Super Bowl halftime. For sure. This gave me like so much. was so... Yes, full on production. And it gave me like Jabberwocky vibes. And just hip hop and... I just, I loved it. And I think it elevates.

Speaker 1 (04:01.488)
Form production.

Speaker 1 (04:07.915)
yeah

Aye, aye, aye.

This is Tron on the court.

Speaker 3 (04:17.769)
I think it elevates the sport. And I know people are going to say, you know, are we losing the backyard pickleball? I don't think so. At this level, I'm not asking to do this at Open Play. I'm not asking for the fanfare at Open Play. But I am saying this is, if you want to be elevated to the football, the baseball, you know, those type of things, you're going to have to bring it.

If we want to be Olympic level, this is Olympic level,

This is bringing pickleball to another level.

Why is Vietnam, why do you have to flex on us so hard? That's true. Well, maybe there was something back in the day, the 60s, 70s that caused you to flex on us this hard. I don't know. Maybe. There's something. Go look it up in the history books. vaguely

All I know is that they brought it and they ate.

Speaker 1 (05:01.358)
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So obviously let's send it around the room. What is, what's your walkout music? Do you have a song like you would pick? Like, and, and, and so Stratton, my son and I were talking about this the other day, uh, walkout music, you know, what's the toughest and stuff like that. I already have one picked, but I'm to let you all go first.

Yeah, it's really cool.

Speaker 3 (05:21.294)
I have not suited for work songs.

Not safe for work. So if you're at work, turn this down. Put your earphones

I'm just saying I have I have some songs I would do and then some like that you really can't do and then I would have a song that I Would would be okay to use and I it with Sean Paul pickleball because we had this whole yeah this whole thing

If you're a mom and you're a Kia Sedona dropping your kids off at school right now, turn the radio down and just come back to this. Oh, okay.

I'm not gonna play it. Pretty much any EZE song I would use. But I mean you're at a tournament, no one's playing, you know.

Speaker 1 (05:57.602)
He was with, was he with NWA also? what is that?

Yes. We'll just leave the acronym. okay. It's not safe for work. Anyway. But I love Eazy E as I grew up on it and or any too short. I would I would just use all of them. It just hits so hard. I just love it. I'm sure I'm sure Paddle Princess's song is nowhere near.

It's not safe for any

Speaker 2 (06:16.609)
Hello

or

Speaker 1 (06:20.588)
This is our kids are superior to other kids.

Speaker 1 (06:27.534)
touch my heart, my achy break

You probably do some Gretchen Wilson BS.

I mean, that was one of the-

Is it really?

One day somebody's gonna come around.

Speaker 4 (06:40.186)
Redneck woman That one was one of mine No, not fancy but redneck woman was just cuz it's fun and it gives that energy But then like my real one too That would be like real good energy for me that I actually played on the way to the tournament last time was move bitch by ludicrous

Yes, I knew it. knew.

Speaker 1 (06:45.847)
Not fancy.

Speaker 1 (07:01.452)
Okay, okay.

I would go. would take Luda in. Ready to listened to his whole album.

Give me some luda and

So that drives home a question for me. Did she ever get the F out of his way? I don't know. don't know. That's unresolved. Unresolved.

For sure.

Speaker 1 (07:18.03)
Get up the comments, Luda. You want to be relevant again? Get on the BDE podcast. He's killing it. He wants to be more relevant. gets on our podcast. True. We got 5,000. It is Billy Squire, The Stroke. Yeah. It's always... Well, yeah, back when I was on the stage quite a bit, know, ladies, let's put some coin on the loin. I would come out, that would be my walker.

Yeah, for sure.

no, he's in commercials He's killin' it.

Yeah, that's okay. What would your walkout song?

Yeah, you always said that would be your...

Speaker 3 (07:46.084)
home during crafts.

You can look me up, I went by Sir Loin. Yeah, no, the stroke, because it starts, you got the beat, you got the drums, you have to get the crowd involved right away. That's true. And so it's gotta be something with an intro that just smashes right away, everybody's involved right away, and the clapping starts and all that. I mean, that's what makes a good walkout song. As soon as you hear the first notes, you're already in.

I would agree. I would agree. And it is. That is a good song. Yeah.

For sure. And I mean, just so many things you could do with the paddle. So many things you can do.

your hips. we were doing doubles and we went out there, do you know what song we would use?

Speaker 1 (08:23.854)
Fly like an eagle. yeah, yeah, I was made for loving you.

Come on. again. It's by Kiss.

That's our song. Anytime it comes on, we have to find each other.

Do not think disco sucks. not.

That is like the best song. Like he'll be out working out and if it comes on the playlist no matter where I am I have to go there. And the kids even get involved.

Speaker 4 (08:46.519)
that that's so

If you have not heard that song, go do it now. You will be pumping your fist in your car. You'll be thrusting your hips inappropriately.

I love this song. But yeah, Asia, think, mean, full send. I am not sorry about it. think they're killing it and we need to stop it.

Like you said, they ate.

Speaker 1 (09:09.098)
it up.

That's a lot of the comments. A lot of the comments were like, could you spend money on better refs? Could you spend money on people who would do line calls?

You know what they said?

Instead of doing this whole production, like can we actually play the game with

I don't care. I like protection.

Speaker 1 (09:38.318)
This is over on memes of pickleball. I saw it on means of a pickleball on Instagram. Go find them. But first go find us BDE podcast.com. Get all up in our comments. Tell us your walkout song. Show us a video you pump in your fist or your hips in your car. We'll probably put it on something for you to see. You can hide your face if you want to. BDE podcast.com.

He says this, I've been laughing all day listening to the podcast and please guy, I hope you do something on cigars in there as well. I'll tell you what, Shannon, I probably am gonna talk about cigars at some We definitely need to get a cigar sponsor. yeah. It worked out for Bill Clinton.

We do.

Speaker 1 (11:39.79)
It's time for Pickle Pound!

Speaker 1 (11:45.752)
You know, our guest this episode knows exactly what it takes to go from zero to hero in pickleball because he did it himself in just three years. We're going to talk about that. Randy Newen is five point old player and coach at Premier Pickleball Club in Utah. And his coaching philosophy is simple. Focus on strengths, not weaknesses, and make it personal. From Lehigh, Utah, we're talking with pickleball Randy here, the guy who cracked the code. Randy, thanks for being with us on the Big Dink Energy podcast.

I'm stoked to be here.

Yeah man, all those paddles back there, those just, are those paddles you took off of bodies you bagged out there on the court?

yeah, I'm like what's that Sith Lord? Just a guy that collects trophies all the time? No, I wish I was that good.

So, I mean, three years ago, right, you picked up a pickleball paddle for the first time. So what made you try pickleball, I guess?

Speaker 2 (12:30.764)
I think it was just like a date day with me and my girlfriend. We just did like an intro pickleball class and I had like two years of tennis like decades ago. then I did pickleball and I was like, wait a minute, this is something I can actually steadily get better at. And that's a very addicting feeling as I'm sure you know, and all the other listeners that play pickleball know it's the fact that it's so.

so easy to just level up and you can get as good as you want or you can stay as good as you want like that's the beauty of it and that's why I'm in it.

Yeah, yeah, for sure. that's, I tell people all the time when I'm talking to my friends, have you tried pickleball? No. Okay, don't because you're going to be buying paddles and shoes and gear, you know, after day one. If you've got some sort of addictive personality, you're going to get addicted right away.

Yeah, it is the greatest cult that I've ever been a part of.

love that. love, yeah, I mean, not the black Nikes and the black trench coats or anything like that, but just a fun cult. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:26.604)
Yeah, there's nothing harmful, know, it's we're all getting our steps in. That's right. We got some cool leaders like, you know, it's a good one to be a part of.

So, I mean, you're 5-0 now, right? And so did you have any idea, obviously the tennis background helped, but did you have any idea like, man, I'm go all the way.

No, I think when I was just like, starting out playing, like I was just having a good time. And then I really only wanted to get better because the people that were beating me at the time were, they were kind of a-holes. Am I allowed to say a-holes? They were kind a-holes. We say it all the time. Yeah, yeah. So I think the joy of beating people that think that they're better than me was really what drove me to try and get to 5-0. And so it was never my goal, but it was a consequence of people's actions against me. Oh, I love it.

a of revenge arc like that. So now, I mean, now though, in your local courts, you've got to be recognized, you're recognizable person. Have you ever done the undercover boss thing, fake mustache, fake beard, try to, know, hat on and all that kind of stuff to kind of be a sleeper out there on the court and just bag people?

actually thought about that as a series idea where like I kind of go to like I'd be recognized at the clubs because I play at the clubs here all the time right but if I went to like a local park with like my just like a $20 like my my monarch paddle here in like a plastic trash bag and like and like I'm just wearing like Crocs or something I feel like I could get away with that.

Speaker 1 (14:51.104)
Excuse me homeless person, you gotta get off our couch.

Exactly. I saw this. It seems like it could be fun.

Was there like a big moment to you, a big epiphany or a big moment that stood out where like, man, this is, man, I'm going, I'm going all the way. I'm crossing over from novice to semi pro pro.

think one of those moments was when I was able to hit a reset because resets are insane. Like when I first started playing, like all I could do was hit a drive with my forehand, right? And so once I realized like, you can actually take the pace off the ball. can, you can defensively reset the point and get yourself back in it. Like, like realizing that you're able to do that. I was like, there's another level that could be reached. And so yeah, the resets insane.

Yeah, I think, and it is because so many beginners get out there and they just want to drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, right? Drive, serve, third shot drop, and then get up to the line, right? And then let's go fast and hard. And so, man, that's so important because you see so many of the Ben Johns and everybody out there, when you slow the game down, that's like chess.

Speaker 2 (15:56.29)
Yep, that's when it goes from mini tennis to pickleball is controlling the pace of the game.

Yeah. So what did your training like when you were like, okay, I'm beyond three, I'm moving to four five. What was the, did the training increase obviously or no?

Yeah, so my drilling routine, it's, uh, I've talked about this a few times on my channels, but I legit just got a dink master wall, like, two and a half years ago. And then I would just hit in my garage 30 minutes a day, either hands or resets or dinks. And that really propelled me to like four or five.

Yeah, and you know, all the coaches say it. And if people aren't there, out there aren't doing it, we've said it on the podcast a ton of times, just find a wall that can return the ball back to you. Get your foot placement, get your hands on the paddle the right way, figure out how you're gonna send that ball back and work on that. Like you said, 30 minutes a day. mean, that's a huge thing.

Even once a week, like just any extra reps on top of rec play, you are going to be levels above the people that are at rec play.

Speaker 1 (16:58.126)
Now I gotta guess I'm a solid 1.5 1.8 and I get on any good day. So I got So but but the mental game right it changes dramatically so I mean the techniques there you got the technique you got ball placement Resets all that but the mental game has got to change at the at the 5-0 level probably from that 3-5 and on right a hot

guess every five says.

Speaker 2 (17:19.63)
100%. Yeah. When I first started playing pickleball, I was the biggest crash out of all time. one simple mistake, either if it was my partner or my fault, I would just mentally fall off a cliff and I was just a totally unpleasant, different person. And so, yeah, once I started like hitting that 4.0 wall, I was like, I need to figure out how to rein these emotions in. Otherwise, I can't hang with the people that are just calmly picking me apart. And so...

Yeah, mean, so therapy was huge. started therapy around the same time I from 4.0 to 5.0. So therapy is big for emotional regulation. And then it sounds cheesy, but I read this book by Dan Gringrich called Pickleball Mindset, where he talks about, you know, mental exercises that he does to help visualize his game a lot better. And that along with some meditation books, like it really helped my brain calm down a little bit. I'm a very different person than I was three years ago when I started playing.

That's awesome. Yeah, I have a good friend, Mike Gillette. He's a Guinness Book of World Records holder. He's a guy that folds frying pans into small shapes, horseshoes and all that. And he has a book out about the mind and its connection to strength and overall. And he teaches athletes all over the world. He's coached some of the best. Now he does girls gymnastics coaching of all things, but it is that mind connection. Once you start owning that space, mean, the sky's the limit at that point.

100%. And it always hurts to me when I see players that are so talented, but their mental game is like not even close to the level of their physical talent. And so, yeah, I think if there's a tip I can give anybody, it's just do some meditation, like figure out how to do it and get your mind calm.

Yeah, that's, know, because pickleball, I've always said, and we've had some guests on too, that it is a huge, huge help for the people with mental health anxieties or anything like that, especially like soldiers, law enforcement, first responders, you know, to get out and connect to a community like that, huge dopamine, huge, you know, all the good fun chemicals. So you're already starting out from a good place and then you can defeat yourself in your mind very easy. So I'm glad you called that out. That's awesome.

Speaker 2 (19:29.122)
Yeah, yeah. It's mental game is part of the fun of getting better at pickleball too, is realizing that you're regulating your emotions better and you're able to think clearly while you're playing like that makes a big difference.

Yeah, and of course you came to it through the same way. I recommend a lot of people, if you're go on a first date or a second date, try pickleball because that will tell you everything about your partner or your potential life partner that you wanna know how they handle defeat, how they handle adversity.

If my girlfriend started dating me when I first started playing pickleball, we wouldn't have made it.

Right, right, right, yeah. And it works for marriage too. Like we've been married 23, 24 years. So body bagging my wife from behind while we're on the same team. mean, chef's kiss.

from behind is the best. That's the best way.

Speaker 1 (20:12.334)
Yeah. my, totally my fault, honey. Totally. So you're at Premier Pickleball Club, right? And at 10 indoor courts, cushion flooring, I got to talk about that and replay cameras and all the cool stuff. mean, I just named all the reasons it's awesome, but tell me a little bit about it.

It is literally built by Molly Hansen and her dad, Jamie, from the ground up. They're pickleball obsessed people like we are, and they're like, we want to build a mecca for pickleball. And so yeah, the cushion flooring is really nice on the joints. They recirculate air every 10 minutes, so it doesn't get musty and stuffy in there, and it's always cold. lighting is, they use indirect lighting. So instead of like the beams, like shining down on the courts.

They're actually shooting upwards at the white ceiling. And so you're not staring straight into a light bulb when you're looking up for an overhead. And yeah, and then they don't do any metal fencing, any metal fencing that they have. It's covered by felt or some kind of cloth. So you can hear your conversation on the court, which is really cool too.

smart.

Speaker 1 (21:18.548)
so just the sound step. I mean, they thought about everything.

Yeah, yeah, it is an awesome facility. Definitely, I would say the nicest facility in Utah.

So, but I gotta imagine right by the front desk, you guys have canned oxygen, right, for people who are not used to it or come from out of town.

So I joke with my girlfriend all the time, like the air quality in Utah when it gets terrible, we just gotta go to Premier Pickleball because then we can actually breathe.

Yeah. So, I mean, you do a lot of coaching. What is, let's talk about, you know, if you had to, if you got people from the podcast on the court today, what is one thing you would say, let's work on this right now. This will, this will take you to a next level. yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:57.646)
One of my favorite drills that I like to do is just with like even newbies or anywhere to forro. I I've heard of it. It's called the slinky drill where you didn't get the in the kitchen and then one person just moves their way back and then they move their way forward, like hitting resets and drops. And so it's a really good gauge to see people's touch as well as their, puts into their mind that a reset from transition is the same thing as a dink, but just a little bit longer. So it kind of changes their mindset of.

I'm not hitting a different shot. I'm hitting the same shot, but from a different spot. And so I think that's how I would feel people out. And then I like to work on hands a lot, just cooperative volley drills. then, and yeah, those are the big ones.

And so, you know, how important is footwork? mean, because that's one of the things we hear a lot too, is the footwork side. How, do you see that as, that's important, right?

Footwork is like top three, top two, maybe most important skills you can have. I have one student, she's 12 and she wants to go pro at some point because she has a natural talent. And our first 10 minutes of our private lessons are just me putting her through footwork drills because I want her to be able to move well and know how to properly move her body because if you move your body right, you're not going to have a lot of difficult shots to handle.

Right, yeah, absolutely. And then realizing lines are great for ins and outs, but man, you can be anywhere on that court at any moment. Right. So, you know, going from novice to 5.0 in three years, what do you see as next for you? What's two years? What's three years? What's four years for you? Are you on the MLP circuit or what's going on?

Speaker 2 (23:22.283)
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (23:37.11)
Really far thinking. I never think that far. I think one of my friends here, his name's John Thorne. He's like a 5'6' duper and he plays pro qualifiers. One of the best pieces of advice he gave me was, think of your progression as small wins. So he's not thinking like, I'm going to go pro in five years. He's thinking, I want to sign up for a tournament this next month. I want a podium within this next month. Like, so I think for me, the small wins that I want are...

I don't have a timeline for this, I would like to podium in 5.0 within this year. So that's what I'm working towards.

I like that. I like that. And so the overall pickleball scene in Salt Lake is, is, is it awesome? Is it hit or miss or what's your take on that? It is.

Have you been to Utah before?

I've been to Utah, yeah, not for pickleball. Okay.

Speaker 2 (24:25.336)
So yeah, so there's the Mormon religion and then there's the pickleball religion on the side. And so yeah, it's awesome because you'll see multiple generations of family like go to the courts together and play and pickleball is such a big part of the Utah culture here. it is impossible. It's really hard to not find a game or an event pickleball related any time of the day during the week.

Yeah, I think you guys could piggyback off of the Mormon wives trend that's going on. But I gotta guess when the Mormons show up, it's hard to pick which wife is gonna go on the court and play with you, I would guess, right?

I think they did away with that, unfortunately, but yeah, I think they did away with that a while ago.

I've got one wife, it's more than enough for me. can't imagine having multiples. Yeah, so Instagram, man, you're big on Instagram. I love your content out there. Give shout outs to everything everybody needs to go to to let them know where to find you and connect with you.

Yeah, one's good. One's awesome.

Speaker 2 (25:20.93)
Yeah, you can find me on TikTok and Instagram and YouTube as Randy Pickleball. I am not a content creator. think I enjoy creating content, but like, don't think I'm very good at it. I'm not very organized because I have an idea and I'll film it and then I'll post it. But like, I just learned this year there's people that do like social media schedules where like they'll schedule out when they post things. I'm like, guys, this is incredible. I wish I that level of organization, but I just enjoy creating content.

Yeah, and you can tell it really comes through. And you're exactly right. had a early on, I had a bunch of stuff go viral and then it became a job.

And I'm like, I already got a couple of jobs. don't need another, I don't need a TikTok job. You know what I mean? So I just kind of stepped away from it all. Cause again, it was just, it was getting to be too much. But when you're, when people are genuine, like your stuff is, it really comes through the screen. People don't want to see polish. They don't want to see perfect. They want to see someone who has kind of the same struggles they are, or is at a level that they are trying to get to. And that all comes through on your stuff.

Thank you. That means a lot. I always try and be authentic for just a small tip that I have for people that like want to create content like they're talking to the camera is just imagine like you're telling whatever you want to tell to like your wife or your girlfriend or your best friend. And that way it doesn't come off like as script.

Yeah, that and the other thing, just send it. You know what mean? People worry too much about their looks or how they're going to be perceived and all that. Man, the social media sphere is for everybody. Yeah. Well, it's not for everybody, but it's for most people. Yeah. So just send it. know, hit record, say what you got to say, do your thing, man, and get out there and just send it.

Speaker 2 (26:56.438)
Yeah, I had a friend, he just started creating pickleball content this year and he reached out and he was like, how do you get past this fear of people not liking you? And I'm like, dude, right. And my only thing was like, dude, life is so short. Like I don't have time to care about what people think about me. Like I know what I want to put out to the world and I'm not going to let what some random person, I don't even know, you know, their opinions, you know, care about me. And it's like, it really is freeing once you're able to.

put yourself out onto the internet and not care because like, dude, I know my mustache ain't even like, I, know, know my teeth are crooked and I know I have like a weird smile sometimes. Like I enjoy it. This is me, bro. Like you have to learn to it. It's really a good part of learning to love yourself and just not caring what people think.

Yeah, and it goes back to that therapy. You're absolutely right. Love yourself. Get out there and do some pickleball. And if you're in Utah, go find pickleball Randy. Man, brother, I appreciate you coming on and doing this. Love your content. Everybody else on the Big Dink Energy side of things, please go find Randy out there, pickleball Randy out on all the socials. Hey, thanks for being on, brother. I appreciate

Appreciate it. Thank you so much for having me. This was a great time.

Speaker 1 (28:14.638)
It is. Pick six is where we take one question. We each bring two answers and immediately regret agreeing to the segment. Mostly like I do the whole podcast. But today's pick six is this things you can say about peptides. That's something for us. Things you can say about peptides, but not your wife. Go ahead.

All right, so I'm gonna go with, my friends keep asking what I'm using.

Okay, okay. What you got, paddle princess?

I need to rotate my injection sites.

Mmm.

Speaker 3 (28:44.558)
You

I inject it right in the stomach.

It works better when I stay consistent with it.

Yes.

It burns a little, but the results are worth it.

Speaker 3 (28:58.766)
That's the GK. GHKCU. It does burn a little bit.

Yeah. My buddy gave me some of his and I've never gone back.

Speaker 1 (29:10.478)
Tell us what you think. What are some of the things you can say about peptides? If you're not using peptides, go to bdepodcast.com slash over 40. We've got some stuff over there for you to read and there's a quiz over there and all the cool things to learn about those, but things you can say about peptides, but not your wife.

I love it.

Speaker 3 (29:30.542)
News you can use.

Use it or lose it, I say. What you got on the news?

All right, this one made me stop for a second. So just listen. Okay. Apparently, Gen Z is now carrying what they're calling anxiety bags. They're basically little kits with snacks and supplements and comfort items, things to help them regulate stress during the day. And experts are actually saying it's a smart move. Instead of waiting until you're overwhelmed, you're managing in real time.

But this raises the question. How weak are they? Is this genius or did we grow up in a generation where you were supposed to ignore your stress and just power through it? What is going on? are we thinking of these anxiety bags?

Gen X is the toughest Gen. I came home from school, let myself in, cooked my own meals. Oh, Lord. was dark before my parents came home. I to fend off bears and burglars and beets. this is these are people that are wrapped in bubble wrap nowadays. This is too much.

Speaker 3 (30:29.07)
Battlestar Galactica.

Speaker 3 (30:36.142)
So are you thinking it's too much or is it that we just normalized being stressed? That's what I think. I mean, I'm just playing devil's advocate.

What a stress.

Speaker 4 (30:47.31)
That's a little combination of both. think that we do very much so normalize like being stressed out. That's life, honey. Get over it. We normalize that. That's what we say. like, yeah, it's not that big of a deal. Figure it out. We grew up in a generation where you didn't have that.

Right, is what I guess the question

That's right. Why are we making such weak people?

But then I think about it in these anxiety bags, that's what's in every woman's purse. You got snacks, you got what you need for the day, you come prepared.

Okay, so what would be in your over 40 anxiety?

Speaker 1 (31:22.72)
a knife, a gun, rope, duct tape.

We're up to 70. Like she gave me a protein bar the other day, turkey sticks. I had egg bites.

That was just so you didn't get nacho cheese baseball hat at the ballpark.

Yeah.

and the honey, I was sad.

Speaker 3 (31:41.578)
Yeah, that's what I would have. I would have my loaded water, protein bars.

My hand sanitizer. Maybe some...

Essential oil like I like the balance essential oil because that bring you down you're kind of stressed out But I don't know that I would ever do that because I just move on like I don't know I don't know if it's right or wrong. I'm indifferent I mean, I don't care

I am as well. I get what you're saying because for us it's like an anxiety bag. you serious? What else are they gonna come up with? But my first thought when you were talking was, okay, that's a diaper bag.

I think they're just labeling. It's like this has always been around. Don't take our stuff and call it your stuff.

Speaker 4 (32:21.07)
It's like, oh, well now we have these anxiety bags. No, everything that you listed is in my purse. Right, and it has been for my entire life.

I kind of feel like that with like the whole fidget toy thing that came around. I'm like, we used to just click our pencils.

Do you have to, when your anxiety bag, when you open it, do you have to go to your safe space to do that?

and have to.

I mean, to each their own, whatever you need to do to get up to, I don't know, get off the ledge. don't know. But I'm just saying I don't know that I would make a specific bag.

Speaker 4 (32:49.97)
No, I wouldn't have like a separate bag for it. Make sure I have my anxiety bag. No, that's called mom's snack bag.

It's just being prepared.

Speaker 3 (32:58.028)
Right, snacks and chapstick and-

Yes. Yeah, like in my truck, I carry extra water, carry beef jerky, I carry nuts in there. No, I have things that will help me survive if my truck goes off into the woods for some reason. If I roll down a cliff and roll over 18 times, I'm still coming out. I'm going to duct tape my life.

Yeah, so you have an anxiety back.

Speaker 3 (33:16.475)
You're still coming out with a beef jerky stick.

have our survival bags and our go bags in our car.

But that's what I'm saying, it's like, I don't think it's anything new. There's nothing new.

I agree with you. I think it's just being relabeled. Because especially like moms with younger kids, like I said, it's a diaper bag. The older you get, you have your own purse or you have your own backpack. Or it's in your car. mean, we all have those things with us. Maybe not like a plushie that we're going to sit there and cuddle with in our car. I mean, that's a little much.

Soothing Bags.

Speaker 3 (33:45.186)
But if we had to have one answer, do you feel like we're over labeling it? would say yes, are over.

I think everything becomes a thing. Because now I can go on TikTok and can show you my anxiety bag. This is what I pack so I don't get anxiety. I don't get overwhelmed at the airport when I'm wearing my crocs or my feet exposed. Nobody should have feet exposed at the airport. Now we're on a different subject. You're the reals. I'm a curmudgeon. I am a curmudgeon.

Going off

Speaker 4 (34:11.406)
think it's necessarily like everything has to have a label. I think that things already had a label and the labels are being changed to associate with mental health when they already had different labels. Why all of sudden does it have to be, well I had these things in my bag because it's my anxiety bag? No, you have it in there because if your blood sugar drops, you're gonna f-

Yeah, I think like it's like, you know, I made a new mom bag and it has diapers in it. Yeah and formula And toys. Yeah, that's a diaper bag. Yeah. So anyway Gen Z for you

Why does it have to be really?

Speaker 1 (34:45.934)
Now just.

Gen Z has all their weird words anyway and their weird labels and their skivvy whatever whatever words that they come up with I mean I guess every generation has maybe I'm just old and I look at this new generation like what I'm sure that my parents thought about our generation too so

Yeah.

Speaker 3 (35:03.596)
You're just dumb. know.

I don't think we made up words. I think we applied words that already existed to different things like gag me with a spoon and stuff like that. But this generation is just making up their own dang old words. And this is just, it's infuriating to me.

Tell us how you really feel! We're old. Well, let us know if you have an anxiety bag. Well, actually, don't call it that, because we'll probably...

I can't.

Speaker 4 (35:30.478)
Well, I will make fun of you. I'm kind interested in this, so I'm going to go do some research to see what actually is.

Literally drinks, supplements, food. It's literally...

So things that I have in my work bag on a daily basis that I would need.

It's called packing. Yeah.

It's not being prepared for life.

Speaker 4 (35:49.336)
Put a lunchbox, like put it in your lunchbox.

I've made this new thing where I pack my food and then I eat it around noon.

It's called my blood sugar bag. My sugar bag. No, it's a lunchbox. Put it in your lunchbox and eat it.

Tell us what you think.

We're worked up. We're worked up. I'm sure they're listening in their car just as aggravated.

Speaker 4 (36:06.83)
What's wrong with

Speaker 4 (36:11.914)
aggravated.

No, they're reaching for their anxiety bag right now.

my god, this is so...

I'm
